Have you ever wondered what God thinks about you?
I know I have, and I believe many Christians do at some point in their spiritual journey. In a world full of distractions, doubts, and uncertainties, it’s easy to wonder: What does God see when He looks at me? What does He think? Deep within, we all yearn to understand and experience God’s purpose and plan for our lives.
The beautiful truth is this: God’s purpose for you remains unchanged. Even if you haven’t fully discovered or stepped into it yet, His thoughts toward you are constant and good—yesterday, today, and forever.
God’s Thoughts Are Not Like Ours
We often measure our worth based on our performance, appearance, or level of success. But God doesn’t think like we do. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” says the Lord(Isaiah 55:8).”
His thoughts are higher, greater, and eternal, far more than we can fully comprehend. Our past mistakes or current limitations don’t sway him. Where we see failure, God sees opportunity. Where we see delay, God sees development.
God’s Purpose for You Hasn’t Changed
You may feel like you’ve messed up or missed God’s plan and purpose for your life, but God’s calling is not dependent on your perfection. Instead, His plan is rooted in His never-ending love and unchanging grace. Whatever God called you to do, He’s still calling you to do it, even if you’re not actively doing it. He didn’t change His mind or take back the power and gifts He’s given to you to accomplish it. “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable(Romans 11:29).” His plan for your life is still active, available, achievable, irrevocable, and beautiful. Whatever season you’re in, His hand is at work, shaping your story for His glory, honor, purpose, and plan.
Jesus Reveals God’s Heart for You
You don’t have to doubt how God feels about you; we see God’s heart towards us when we look at Jesus. His life, death, and resurrection are the clearest expression of God’s love. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…(John 3:16).” Through Jesus, God has spoken to the world and you: You are worth dying for. You are loved beyond comprehension, you are forgiven and set free. You are chosen, and you are seen. Jesus didn’t come to condemn you, but to restore you, give you life, and invite you into God’s eternal plan.
The Holy Spirit Reveals God’s Thoughts to Us
Contrary to some beliefs, God isn’t hiding from us and doesn’t leave us guessing about His plan. God’s word tells us He reveals His plan through His Spirit. “God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God(1 Corinthians 2:10). And again, “Now we have received… the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God(1 Corinthians 2:12). The Holy Spirit shows you God’s thoughts toward you and your future. The Holy Spirit is your daily guide, teacher, and comforter. He whispers the truth of God’s thoughts toward you, helps bring clarity when you feel lost and uncertain, and peace when your heart feels pain.
Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes
One of the most significant changes in the Christian life is learning to see yourself as God sees you. When we view ourselves through the lens of God’s word, the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of truth, guides us into understanding the truth, including what God says about us. When you begin to align your identity with His truth, everything changes. You no longer have to walk in shame or fear, but now you walk in purpose and confidence. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds you of the sincerity of God’s plans for you. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope(Jeremiah 29:11).” That future is not just a sound good, far-off dream, it is in the here and now, one step at a time, as you put your trust in God, and walk with Him.
Valuable Ways to Align with God’s Thoughts
Prayer is one of the most powerful tools believers have to grow and strengthen their faith. I encourage you to pray, commit to spending time in prayer, and ask God to reveal His heart to you.
Read the Bible daily; it is filled with truth about your new identity in Jesus and your purpose. As you pray and read God’s word, listen as the Holy Spirit leads you into truth and helps you discern God’s will.
Journal what you hear – Write down the scriptures and impressions God gives you.
Stay connected to others in a faith-filled community – Sometimes, God uses others to confirm what He’s saying.
Encouragement and Prayer
Hey, my Friend, God is not silent about you. He thinks of you constantly, with love, joy, and divine purpose. Don’t let fear or failure cloud the truth of how He sees you. His thoughts towards you are good, eternally and forever. 1 John 4:10 reads, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Take a moment to pray:
“Father, thank You for loving me with an everlasting love, and proving Your love in sending Your son, the Lord Jesus. Thank you for the plan and purpose you’ve designed just for me. Help me to know and align my heart with Your thoughts. Help me to walk in the confidence of knowing I am fully known and fully loved by You. Reveal Your plan to me, Lord, through Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
