We love our babies, and we work hard to keep them safe. Certainly with Spring just upon us and Summer not too far behind I thought this to be the right time to remind us of child pool safety tips. These tips should be applied any time your baby is in or around any body of water, the tub or the pool.

1. Keep Baby In Eyesight At All Times
The most important thing in keeping babies safe while around water is having the baby in eyesight at all times.
Remember it only takes a few seconds for trouble to arise, so don’t allow baby to be left alone for any amount of time.
2. For Baths Check Water Temperature
Be sure to check water temperature before placing the baby in the bathtub. A good rule of thumb is to keep it warm and test it with the baby to make sure they approve.
3. Be Within Arms Reach
While swimming is fun and undoubtedly enjoyable just be sure to keep your baby within arms reach because it only takes a few minutes for things to make a dangerous turn especially in public pools.
4. Use Security Measures
Keep pool area secured and off limits when adults are not around. Definitely, if you have a backyard pool keep the pool area adequately secured.
5. Age Appropriate Water Toys & Floats
Make sure to use appropriate size floats for babies and toddlers. Floats are fun and safe for babies, so be sure to read the directions and age requirements when making a purchase.
6. No Running/Playing Around Pool
Don’t allow babies to crawls or run around the pool area. Anyone running around the pool area runs the risk of slipping and falling even more so children who are just learning to walk and run.
7. Sunscreen
Use proper skin protection methods. So, while purchasing the best sunscreen for your baby be sure to read the directions especially if your baby has sensitive skin.
8. Swimwear
For swimming use appropriate swimwear; use swim diapers. Similarly, swim diapers should be frequently checked and changed.
9. Keep Area Clean
Be sure the area is kept clear of dangers and clean. So, whether baby is in bathtub or pool, make sure the area is free from dangerous items, chemicals, and clutter.
10. Proper Water Levels
For bathing make sure the water is at a proper level, not too high for a baby. For instance, a good standard is between 2 to 4 inches for babies and waist high for toddlers.
