Having a baby after 40 years old

What No One Tells You About Having A Baby After 40!

Having A Baby After 40!

Babies are beautiful! They smell heaven scent and make hearts everywhere melt. Having a baby is one of the greatest gifts given to women. However, enduring the pregnancy is indeed bittersweet from beginning to end. My experience with being pregnant after 40 years old was a challenge and a blessing. The problem, in the beginning, was not so much the pregnancy itself but the belief of being pregnant. I was so shocked that it took two pregnancy tests and two different doctors before I accepted it to be true.

Don’t Forget The Morning Sickness!

The denial was comfortable until morning sickness hit home. Morning sickness for me is the worst part of the pregnancy apart from delivery. The only thing that seemed to change with being older is it gave me the added strength and patience in dealing with the morning sickness. After morning sickness took a back seat and I began to feel better then it was smooth sailing until the third trimester. Being older and wiser did help me stay focused on eating healthy and keeping a steady watch on my weight.

Family Support

The True Definition of Home Stretch!

During the last weeks of pregnancy, my anxiousness was on delivery. Not that I wasn’t excited about having a new baby and all the joy that brings because I was. However after having three c-sections previously made me very nervous and concerned about the amount of scar tissue the doctor would have to cut through before reaching the baby. A c-section delivery is still major surgery even though you’re bringing a child into the world. As weeks turned into days, my nervousness turned into “let’s get it done!” I know faith, prayer and family support helped me get through the actual surgery.

Having a baby!

Postpartum

My recovery time was much more difficult this time around. I associate this with I had both risk factors, my age and this being another c-section. However, I’m thankful for my family; they did not doubt me bouncing back. I was determined to get my strength back since I’m not one who likes to be bed bound any longer than necessary. With that in mind my advice to anyone thinking of having a baby after 40 yrs old. Go for it! Be sure to take prenatal vitamins, drink plenty of water, exercise and eat healthily.

No Refunds and No Returns!

The experience of having a baby at any age is a great blessing! The experience of having a baby after 40 is an even greater blessing and it allowed me to display great amount of patience but truly see the love of God for me, the baby and my family.

Enjoy!
