Parenting With Challenges

Parenting a child with extra special needs can be challenging. A good way of dealing with some of these challenges s making it a priority to stay present. Staying present includes not comparing or competing with others. You must know you were hand-picked to walk the road you travel and the journey that comes with it.

Stay Present

These are just a few ways I stay present as I continue on my journey.Parenting Special Needs

Support System

Having a support system is a significant dynamic in coping with the challenges of raising a special needs child. Your support system doesn’t have to be large it may only include your close family, friends and the health care management team you have in place as long as within that group you accept and lean into their support.

Honesty

Honesty, yes be honest! Be honest with yourself and don’t be afraid to admit to yourself that yes you have a child with challenges and yes it’s difficult at times. Be honest with yourself regarding the ups and downs of your child’s diagnosis. When it’s good it’s good but when it’s not good be able to accept it but accept it with hope. I remember when I first found out I would be parenting a child with health risk and difficulties. The first thing I did was learn all I could about it and how others managed with it.

Boundaries

Set limits! Know your boundaries and don’t be afraid to put them in place. Why? Because this is your life and while you may be open to give explanations it’s okay to say no without reason. After all, those close to you will most likely already understand why and why not. Your family and your child depend on you to make good choices for everyone. Your child depends on you to be their primary caregiver and spokesperson. Try your best not to allow yourself to get burnt out, and you need to you just as your family needs you. Always make sure to take care of you!

Faith

The last but not the least above everything have faith!
Have faith every day and on the hard days have greater confidence. Know with sure certainty you will get through it all. No matter what happens you will rise above it and so will your family.
